My Budget Went Out The Window

First of all let me say I’m sorry I didn’t stop in to wish all of my fellow Americans a Happy Independence Day. Our weekend was rather busy with us running from one celebration to another.

By the time we got to our final cookout last night I was beat. We put Ellie in the lake for the first time ever, and after she played for a few minutes I retreated to the dock to sit and relax. Hubby swam and rode the knee board while I sat there talking to my aunt about disability insurance. Yeah, it was a pretty boring conversation that had me wanting to crawl into bed as soon as possible. Unfortunately we were 45 minutes away from home, Ellie was no where near ready to go to sleep, and we still had fireworks to watch. Other than the fact that I was about to fall over from being so tired we had an enjoyable weekend and evening at the lake yesterday.

Today I was happy to spend most of the day at home just relaxing. I was really glad I’d decided to do that when a horrible tension headache hit me this afternoon. It’s been coming and going in waves, and I’m still battling it. Hopefully I can get myself into bed soon and make it go away.

Before I can make it to bed I need to try to work out a new budget, though. Hubby’s boss decided to up and change his pay schedule. He normally is paid weekly with the exception of a couple of times when they were paid bi-weekly because of the job they were currently on.

Now his boss has decided to start paying him bi-weekly for good, and it’s thrown my budget for a loop. The way it works out Hubby got a check Friday, and he won’t be getting another one for 2 weeks. Going 3 weeks on his paycheck is pretty tough when after paying bills we’re already down to $150. We still have to factor gas and groceries for 3 weeks into that.

I just wish his boss had notified him of the change before we paid bills. I went ahead and paid the bike insurance in full, and I could have held off on doing that as well as waited to pay a couple bills that aren’t due until next month. I’ll make it work somehow as I do have a bit of cash I can pull out of savings, and if all else fails I’ll roll change as I have two huge mason jars that are slap full. It’s just one more thing I have to worry about over the next couple of weeks.

The budget won’t change as far as the amount of cash we have each month, but I do have to adjust when I’m paying certain things. I want to make sure some of the critical stuff that can’t ever be late like the bike and truck payments get paid on time. Once I get all that straightened out I’ll adjust to the new pay schedule no problem. Honestly I kind of like it better because even though it’s the same amount of cash it makes me feel like I’m doing a better job with the budget when I can drop such a large chunk on bills all at once.

Anywho, I better get to that so I can get my butt in bed before I fall asleep on my netbook!

Poor Service At Henry’s Body Shop In Walhalla, SC

Back in the beginning of December DH wrecked our Chevy Blazer.  It wasn’t his fault.  He hit a patch of black ice, and there was nothing he could do.

Since we have Nationwide for our insurance we figured everything would go pretty smoothly, but that’s not the case.  We contacted our insurance and the Blue Ribbon claims certified body shop, and it took them 2 weeks to even see the vehicle to give us an estimate of damage and what could be fixed.

We’ve had many problems with the body shop taking their own sweet time getting things done, and now finally 1 month and 2 weeks after the wreck we finally were able to pick up our Blazer today.

I was super pissed.  This is the shittiest body repair job I’ve ever seen.  It looks like the only thing they were able to do properly was matching up the paint color.  I’ve had cars in the past that had distinct color differences after repair work, but this was worse than that.  The entire left rear of the Blazer was trashed, so they had to replace the bumper, left quarter panel, tailgate, and life gate, and the glass on the back window and left side window.

The repairs look horrible.  The bumper is visibly uneven on both sides.  There’s about a 2″ gap on the left side, and if you stand behind the vehicle you can tell that the bumper looks warped.  They didn’t reuse the old bumper.  They replaced it with one from a junk yard, and it looks like they used one that was warped.  The back glass is tinted twice as dark as the rest of our windows, and closing the hatch is impossible for me.  Before I had no problem closing it, but now it has to be slammed to latch.  I couldn’t do it no matter how hard I tried.  It would just bounce right back up, so I had to get DH to slam it shut for me.

When inspecting the paint I found a ton of gashes on the roof of the car right above the back glass.  Those gashes didn’t happen during the wreck, and they weren’t there before.  All I can figure is they happen when the body shop people were installing the back glass and lift gate, and it looks horrible.  They didn’t even try to repair it when they painted the back half of the vehicle.

Needless to say I’m having a huge talk with the insurance adjuster tomorrow.  I’m not happy at all.  I tried to contact him today to get someone out here to take photos of the job the body shop did, but he hasn’t returned any of my calls yet.  All I know is this isn’t something I will accept.  I have a lifetime guarantee with the blue ribbon claims that covers not only the parts used but the workmanship for as long as I own the vehicle.
