Keeping It Pink
Welcome to The Ramblings of Jenn Shuey! If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
You may have noticed my new layout tends to change colors from time to time. Ok so I set it to change colors every time you refresh the page. I decided to change that in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. For the rest of the month of October this blog will remain on the pink theme. Now that doesn’t mean that I won’t be changing the colors up once again when October is over, but I do want to show my pink in any way I can.
Meeting Up With D
We had dinner with one of Hubby’s old friends tonight, and it was so nice to see him. As with a lot of Hubby’s friends, Hubby fell out of contact with this guy due to a drug situation. Hubby was trying to get clean, and this guy wasn’t. Hubby walked away from that whole crowd and did what he needed to do to become clean and sober.
Years later we’re meeting back up with some of these old friends. This guy in particular is another one that I’m happy to say found his way into drug rehabilitation shortly after Hubby did. He moved away, got a great job, and met someone who changed his life. He’s visiting his hometown for the first time in 5 years, and Hubby was the first person (other than his parents) that he called.
They spent a few minutes talking about the past and how things were back then, but then conversation quickly moved to catching up. It makes me feel good to see how well he’s doing, because I met him at one of the lowest points of his life. His options were to continue following a path that would either find him in jail or dead or to do something about it by going to drug rehab and clean up his life. He made the right decision, and it makes me happy to see what a great life he has created for himself.
Such A Long Day
Man has this been one of those days. I got as much done as I could today, but I still ended up with a list full of stuff that I still need to catch up on. By noon I’d knocked out a good portion of my list, but I just didn’t have enough time.
I spent a couple hours after that at my Grandparent’s house. My aunt had to work today, but my Grandma’s medications are making her really sick. I ended up having to spend some time up there washing laundry for her, cooking a dinner that my Grandpa could just throw in the microwave for later, and cleaning up the bathroom repeatedly after many vomiting episodes. Luckily my Grandma’s family doctor also works Saturdays at the Emergency Care clinic, so I ended up calling him twice to make sure her reaction was normal. It’s not exactly what he would call normal, but he said as long as I was keeping fluids in her she’d be fine. He gave me his home #, and if the vomiting doesn’t stop by the morning he’s going to meet her at his office in the AM. I love doctors like that. There aren’t many who are willing to go out of their way to help a patient like that anymore. Most will just tell you to go to the ER.
I left as soon as my aunt got home from work at 4 and went straight to bed. I haven’t been sleeping very well as it is, and today I had a headache that went from a slow pain creeping up to a full blown migraine in a very short time. I tossed and turned for about an hour because my phone kept ringing with a number I didn’t know.
I finally answered it to get the person to stfu, and it was one of those commercial collection agencies asking for someone I’ve never heard of. I’ve had a lot of this happening recently, so after I bitched the guy out, I demanded they stop calling me, blah blah blah. I had to repeat my phone number back to him as we were confirming the removal, and the guy goes “Sorry mam, that number isn’t in our computer.” Basically the number must have been entered wrong in the auto dialer system, so they’ve been calling a phone number that isn’t even listed on their call list in the first place. Ugh!
I was so aggravated and my head hurt so bad I finally just shut my phone off and went back to sleep. I slept like a rock until about 30 minutes ago. That would be why I totally missed Hubby’s call when he left me a voice mail letting me know he was going riding with some friends. He still isn’t home, so I figure they started playing Rock Band II after they rode. I’ve been trying to call his phone, but it’s dead. I wish he’d hurry up and get home. I’m starving, and a midnight run to Micky D’s sounds really good right now.
Extremely Long Lunch
What was supposed to be a 1 hour trip to each lunch with and talk to Hubby’s boss about getting health insurance turned into almost 3 hours of listening to them rant about some of the other guys on the crew. Hubby hates having some of those guys on his crew because they don’t listen. He feels like he’s babysitting them. A lot of time is spent reminding them that their job descriptions as carpenters means they actually build things…not that they sit around all day doing nothing.
I sat there quietly listening. It’s not my business to get involved in. Hubby hates having these talks with his boss, but he knows being second in command means he has to talk about stuff like this. He just hates being the bad guy, and he feels like he’s ratting people out when he has to be brutally honest about how they’re working. I keep reminding him that he’s in this position because he IS the good guy. His boss wouldn’t put so much on him if he didn’t trust didn’t trust Hubby to run a great crew. His crew is always well ahead of schedule, and the attention they put into quality is immense.
That’s why a lot of these homeowners call the company and request to have Hubby come out when they need repairs done. They love how attentive he is to detail. He goes the extra mile to make sure it’s done right and not just slapped together. He demands that of his crew as well, and if the guys working for him aren’t cutting it, it’s his place to say so.
I sat there looking at my phone checking the time just hoping we’d get out of their quickly. We were supposed to tailgate with some friends this afternoon, but I have too much to do. I can’t watch the game since it’s on ESPN 360, so I’ll be listening to it on the radio instead. Thank god my mp3 player also has an fm radio!
