Midnight Party In The Pack N Play

She may only be 10 1/2 weeks old, but I swear my child is on a mission.  She’s bound and determined to make sure Mommy never ever sleeps at night anymore!  Even though I could consider her sleeping through the night since she’s sleeping 5-7 hours at a time, most of that time isn’t actually “during the night”.  She’s got her days and nights partially mixed up since she’s falling asleep around 1-2am every night.

Tonight 2am came and went, and those pretty little eyes were still wide open.  She’s finally sleeping in her pack n play again, but now she’s decided she doesn’t like it at the foot of our bed.  Oh no putting it down there just doesn’t cut it anymore.  Now she’ll only sleep in it if I pull it up next to me between the bed and my dresser.  In a way that actually works out for me though.  I just have to reach over to pick her up at night for her feedings, and since the pack n play wedges snugly between the bed and dresser it can’t move, and I don’t have to worry about her falling off the bed if I fall asleep feeding her.

Anywho, like I said it’s 2:45am and she’s still wide awake tonight.  She did lay down for the night at 9pm (after an hour of bedtime routine), but she woke up at 11pm with no intentions of returning to sleep anytime soon.  I thought for sure she’d go to sleep and stay asleep after eating because she almost doubled her food intake tonight.  She normally has a bottle for that feeding to give her the fullness to sleep longer, and she’ll normally take 3-4 oz.  Tonight she ate 4oz at 11:30m and screamed for more, so I gave her 2 more oz.  She was content for about an hour, and then she started chewing on her hands and screaming again, so I gave her 2 more oz.  She’s eaten every hour since then, and she shows no signs of stopping so mama can get some sleep.  I can only assume she’s going through another growth spurt.

At least she’s laying in her pack n play snuggled up to her little “blankie” and cooing away between feedings.  She’s content enough to let me use this time to catch up on work I’ve needed to do, and I’ve even gotten ahead on my work enough to find time to get this post out.  At least now I know if we end up sleeping most of the day tomorrow I won’t be wasting valuable time I needed for work.  Instead I’ll just be contributing to my daughter’s horrible sleeping habits, but what can I do?  I do need to catch at least an hour of sleep at some point!
