Yep, I said new arrival. Elliana decided to grace us with her presence a few weeks early…as in 5 weeks early. I know I was just as shocked as you probably are. I went to the doctor on Tuesday, October 20 thinking it would be my last October appointment. That’s when I found out my blood pressure was a bit high, and the doctor wanted me to monitor myself to make sure I wasn’t developing preeclampsia.
Unfortunately I do have preeclampsia, and within 2 days I went from a mild case to severe. Thursday I found myself in the hospital, and Friday afternoon I was induced. We tried to go with a natural birth, but it just wasn’t possible. I was having too many complications, and it came down to risking my life or having a c-section, so I ended up with the dreaded c-section on Saturday.
Elliana arrived at 12:11pm Saturday October 24. She showed up as a completely healthy but itty bitty 4lbs 5oz and 17 1/2 inches long. She’s doing great, and she was even released from the hospital before me. She does have a sacral dimple, but so far it looks like all is well there.
We do still have to worry about me. The good news is I can stop freaking out over finding a fat burner because I’ve pretty much lost all of my "baby weight" already. Part of that is because a lot of my weight gain was actually fluid retention and excess blood in my uterus caused by the preeclampsia. The bad news is my blood pressure is still very high, but it’s stable. The doctor has me on 2000mg a day of Labetalol. The max you can take a day is 2400mg, so I’m up there with one of the highest doses available. Actually the pharmacist at CVS didn’t even want to fill my prescription because he thought there must be some mistake.
Anywho I’ll go into more detail about everything later, but right now I just don’t have time. I’m super tired, I have a hungry baby starting to stir in the bassinet, and my wonderful Hubby has almost finished cooking me a late lunch.
