Classic Disney To The Rescue

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We definitely filled ourselves to the max with lots of turkey, and brought home plenty of leftovers to keep us stuffed for awhile.

The little one enjoyed her first family dinner by staying awake and alert the entire time.  She was more alert yesterday than she’s ever been, so I figured she might sleep a little better last night.  Nope.  I was up most of the night with her, and she finally decided we could sleep around 5am this morning.  As I type she’s currently laying here on the boppy alternating between watching Mary Poppins and smiling at me.

I”m starting her off with all the old classic Disney movies that I love before we move into the Disney movies of today.  Mary Poppins may be old, but it’s one of my all time favorite movies.  My aunt and I used to watch it weekly when I was a kid as it’s also her favorite movie. It came out the year she was born so we still watch Mary Poppins every year on her birthday.  It makes her feel young again especially now that she’s starting to receive mail talking about how she needs to look into a Medicare supplement even though she’s only 45!

Anywho, hooking her up with the movie right now is giving me time to relax a bit and get some work done.  My house is an absolute wreck and it’s driving me insane.  Hubby is helping as much as he can, but he’s got a list of stuff he needs to do outside today like putting the rest of that plastic weather film stuff on the windows.  I guess that means I need to get off here and get some work done, huh?  Now that she’s chilled out with the movie that’s exactly what I’m going to do.

Dodging Drivers & Christmas Came Early

After seeing how horrible traffic was tonight I’m scared to see how bad things are going to be on Black Friday.  It was a mad house out there tonight, and now I’m definitely not heading out into that madness on Friday.  I’ll stay at home and shop online!

Everything around town was madness.  We tried to do a little shopping tonight to pick up a few essential things we forgot to grab at the grocery store the other day, but it was nearly impossible to get in anywhere for all the people.  Then on the way home we were dodging crazy drivers left and right.

Apparently a ton of people seem to be having car trouble this weekend, too, because I can’t count on one hand the number of cars I saw parked on the side of the road this evening.  Apparently no one around here seems to have roadside assistance plans. Maybe it’s because our unemployment rates are still so high no one can afford it, so they have to leave their cars parked all over the place because they can’t afford to get them home.

Anywho when we got home I did some online shopping, and I took advantage of some of the deals that are already going on online.  I finally picked up my netbook.  I got myself an Asus Eee PC 1005 Netbook.  I’ve been wanting one of these for awhile, so with Hubby’s approval I treated myself to a late birthday/early Christmas present.  I think he only agreed because I agreed to let him pick up the home theater system he’s been eyeing as long as he grabs it on Black Friday when it’s on sale.  At least both of them are items we’ll get a ton of use out of even if they are a bit of a splurge.  We figure with the baby these are some of the last big purchases we’ll be making for awhile, so we might as well enjoy it while we can!

Not So Wordless

Has It Been A Month Already?

Yes my little girl is now 1 month old, and I can’t believe it!  I don’t feel like she’s been here that long, but I guess a big part of that is the fact that I spent the first 9 days laid up in a hospital bed.

She’s surprising me everyday, and it amazes me how fast she’s growing.  A few days ago I noticed her preemie clothes were starting to get a little snug, and by the end of the weekend she couldn’t straighten her legs in any of her preemie sleepers.  We have officially moved on up to newborn size!  I guess that’s only fitting since her actual due date falls on Turkey Day.

Speaking of Turkey Day, as the mother of the only grandchild on either side of the family I’m also learning how hectic things are going to be for us this year.  We’ll be running all over the place tomorrow because every grandparent and great grandparent expect to have the baby at Thanksgiving dinner.  Hubby will be happy because he’ll have plenty of excuses to eat all he can, but I have a feeling I’ll be thoroughly exhausted.  Then we get to turn around and do this all over again in a month for Christmas!

Things are definitely going to be a lot different this holiday season, that’s for sure.  We’ll be planning everything around the baby instead of us.  Even the items on my Christmas gift wish list have changed.  I’ve gone from scoping out things I’d want like BCBG Max Azria handbags to checking out diaper bags. Instead of buying another tv as our joint Christmas present to each other we’re looking at baby swings. Yep, things are definitely going to be a lot different this year.  What scares me is knowing how many gifts this child will probably get from her Grandparents.  We already received so much stuff in our baby showers that we don’t have enough room to put it all in the nursery.  I don’t know what we’ll do when Christmas gets here because the Grandparents are already buying like crazy.  I may just have to start moving things into storage.  I can at least pack up the clothes she won’t wear until Summer and move those to the attic.  The problem is I never have the time to actually do it.
