Quitting Isn’t So Hard After All

Last week I up and decided I was finally done with cigarettes for good.  I’ve been trying to quit for quite a few years now, but my quit smoking plan never works.  I tend to make excuses until I give up on quitting.  This time I’ve been bound and determined to make quitting work.

I originally thought I’d start cutting back gradually as I searched out a new plan to quit.  I gave Hubby my pack of cigarettes, and I asked him to regulate when and how many I could have because if I’m sitting at the pc working or something I’ll chain smoke and not even realize it just because the pack is in front of me.

I normally go through about a pack a day, but by Saturday morning I realized by having Hubby hold onto the pack I had stretched 1 pack over 3 days.  From that point I just didn’t want them anymore.  I’d light one up, take a couple puffs and toss almost a whole cigarette away.  By Saturday night I started feeling sick to my stomach any time I’d even think of lighting one, and I told myself ok that’s it.  No more.  You’ve always said you didn’t have the willpower to do this cold turkey, but how do you know?  You haven’t tried.

I’m happy to say it’s been 2 days since I touched one, and honestly I’m not having the cravings I thought I’d have.  I may think about one, but then I’ll think about how nasty the last one was, what they’re doing to me, and how I just don’t need it.  The craving goes away in a matter of seconds, and I’m back to doing whatever I need to do.

I used to feel like me worrying about my health and cigarettes were totally working against me, like magnets pulling me in two different directions. Today I can finally say I’ve been without cigarettes for the first time since I started smoking, and I’m proud of myself.

Crazy Out There

Hubby and I headed out to grab dinner tonight, and I swear it was crazy out there.  I know places are going to be semi packed out around here on a Friday night around dinner time, but this just wasn’t normal.  It was 8pm on a Friday night, and even the parking lots of the fast food joints were overflowing…even Burger King which is normally absolutely dead.

I don’t know what was up, but some kind of event must have been going on somewhere.  It doesn’t even get that way on opening game day at Clemson.  I had really wanted food from a specific restaurant, but we gave up on trying to get in there.

We rode through town and eventually decided to just leave town and hit up Paw’s Diner, one of our little local hole in the wall places full of really good food, great prices, and friendly people.  I’m so glad we decided to eat there because I always forget how good the food there really is.

It’s one of those local places where you walk in the door and the waitress knows what you want to drink before you even find a table.  I ordered the $5 hamburger steak plate which is so large I can barely eat half of it at once.  I didn’t even touch my mac & cheese or my fried okra.  I’ve got a full plate left that will be great for lunch tomorrow.

We were going to go shopping after we ate, but that just wasn’t happening.  Lately my energy let has plummetted to 0 in the evenings, so I just did not have the energy to do so.  We swung into CVS for a few must have things, stopped by Hubby’s parent’s house, and headed home.

I do have to go shopping again tomorrow for another gift for another baby shower, so I’ll look at the luxury watch I want to get Hubby then. He really needs a new watch because I’m tired of him breaking all the cheap crappy ones my Grandma buys him. He has a really nice watch he got years ago, but the glass is cracked on it making it useless since you can’t read it. I may have to see how much it would cost me to get that one fixed if I can’t afford to buy him the one I want to get him.

Now I have to go get our tax stuff together. I’ve got most of it ready, but I have a few things I need to print out. We’ve finally got an appointment first thing in the morning to get them done, so now I get to find out how much we owe Uncle Sam. Don’t ya know I’m just so excited to find that out?

He Liked It

Man I had so much fun last night.  We stopped by K & C’s last night to hang out for a few minutes.  What began as a we’ll just stopped by turned into a 3 hour Wii tournament.  I’ve been trying my best to convince Hubby that we need a Nintendo Wii, but he’s a Playstation kind of guy.  He has sworn up and down that the Wii doesn’t look like fun to him at all, and there’s no use spending money on something he won’t play until he has his PS3.

All it took was a few minutes playing last night to convince him otherwise, and now he’s ready to get a Wii. I knew he’d like it if he gave it a try, but he’s stubborn and needed to actually play it to like it.  He liked it so much we’re going back over there tonight to play after we swing by the store to pick up Bubba’s pet supplements.  I kicked butt in tennis, and he vowed he won’t play that with me again, but he does awesome at most of the shooter games.  Then again shooting and racing are his thing.

I just hope we can drag ourselves away from it a little sooner tonight.  We didn’t get home until after midnight last night, and it really through me off.  I had so much to do when we got home I didn’t get to bed until 4am, and I’ve been dragging all day.
