Man today has been one of those days when I feel like I’ve been going going going. We woke up this morning to find it was freezing cold inside the house. Even though the temperature outside got up to around 65 today, inside was much cooler. It was around 57 in the house at 2pm.
So of course we both started freaking out because we’ve been procrastinating. We’re definitely going to have to build a fire in the wood stove tonight since it’s supposed to drop to around 40 overnight, but we’ve been slack on getting the wood stove and chimney cleaned out.
I had just taken a shower, so I decided we should run to town before we got all dirty cleaning it out. We took off for a quick grocery shopping trip, then stopped at the Dollar General to pick up a few other things. I ran into a friend there, and we ended up standing there for 30 minutes talking. I was trying my best to get out of there, but sometimes you just have to either let them keep talking or walk away. I finally said we were in a hurry to get somewhere and walked away.
We were leaving there when we got a call from one of Hubby’s friends asking if we’d ride by for a minute. When we got there he told us his house was broken into last night while he was at Oktoberfest. The only thing missing was his little closet safe, and whoever stole it must know him. They knew exactly when he was gone, and they hacksawed a hole in the floor to remove the safe. He’s weary of banks, so he saves his money in his safe, and had about $4,000 in it along with his little .22 pistol. I totally feel bad for the guy because he has no records to prove what was inside the safe, and if it isn’t recovered intact, all he has is a hole in his floor to show for it.
After we left his house we rushed home to clean out the chimney. It took forever for us to find our sweeper thingy. My Grandpa had tossed it in the barn with all his other random junk, so we had to crawl through all that stuff to find it. I did find 2 bed frames I can use. One is from my old canopy bed I had when I was a kid. I knew it was down there, but it’s got to be repaired, and Hubby can do it. He just needs to drill new holes in for the side rails because the old holes are stripped out too large. That’s what happens when two girls jump up and down on the bed all the time.
My sis and I were always getting in trouble for jumping up to grab the canopy top.
We did get the chimney swept. Hubby crawled up on the roof and did it. Now I just need to take the pipe off from the inside so I can sweep out what he knocked down. I was going to do it while he went to the pasture to work on cutting up more logs, but I changed my mind and decided to wait until Hubby gets home. I’ve got laundry to do (washing now), and I just don’t feel like getting covered with chimney gunk yet.
At least we’ll be able to use the wood stove tonight. I’ve got my little floor heater going right now, and it’s just enough to take the chill off.
