A Night Out

Wow what an interesting night this has been.  I went out with my girls tonight.  I love the time we all get to spend together because I just don’t ever get to hang out with both of them anymore, but girls, ya’ll are just too much for me sometimes!  You wear me out!

Ben, Alli, Jamie, Chris, and I went up to Big Johns.  We were only planning on going out for a couple hours since it’s a week night, but that never happens with those two girls.  We ended up staying until 10:30.

We ran into a couple more of our friends and riding buddies, Matt and Adam, and I spent most of the night sitting there just chatting and hanging out.  I chose not to really drink tonight.  The older I get the less I want alcohol.  I had dinner, the best cheese steak you can get around here, and I drank a beer.  I guess I know someone’s going to end up drinking too much, and I’d rather be the person there to help them instead of the person doing the puking.

No one got that drunk tonight thankfully.  We all had a great time, and everyone walked out the door on their own two feet…and of course went home with their respective DDs.  Now I’m ready to crash.  I remember the days when I could stay out until 2 or 3 in the morning, run home for a couple hours sleep, and be up by 6 for work.  Those days are long gone.  Now I’m at home by 11 and ready to pass out by 11:30.  Man do I feel old.

Planning Ahead For Europe

Hubby and I are currently trying to plan a trip to Europe. We know it’ll be awhile before we get to take this trip, but if I can come up with some general pricing for what we want to do I’ll have something to work with. It makes it easier for me to save that way because I have a set goal. We may not be to the stage where we’re getting passports and boarding planes yet, but we know we’ve got to start somewhere.

Hubby wants to go to Amsterdam and Ibiza. My list is much longer than that. I’d like to start in Ireland before hitting Amsterdam, but that’s by no means where I’d like to spend the entire trip. If I’m in Europe, I want to go everywhere and see everything. This isn’t going to be some small trip. We’re planning to take at least two weeks.

Why? We figure we’re 26, no kids, and we’re full of energy. Why not? If we don’t take our dream trip now then we might not ever get a chance to take it. There will be kids in our future, a house to build, probably even unforeseen expenses. Then we know we’d probably have to wait until our kid’s are out of the house before we’d have a chance to take the trip. We don’t want to wait that long. We want to live in the moment, and we want to do it now.

Yeah I don’t see it as something we’ll get to do within the next year, but if I start saving now that brings us closer to the day we can make the trip. I’m setting my goal now, and I’m going to try to have all the cash saved up within 2 years. There’s a good possibility it’ll be before then, but I just want to make sure this trip is going to be one we’ll remember forever. We’re not going cheap. Everything will be just the way we want it, and if that costs us a fortune, oh well. It’ll be well worth it to us.

Burger King Removes No Camera Signs

After my little rant Friday about Burger King I decided to do something about it.  I called their customer relations department for answers.  The customer service rep I spoke with was very nice, and her reaction to the stickers saying no cameras was one of shock.  She honestly didn’t know what I was talking about and thought it was absurd.  She immediately put me on hold and started trying to contact someone who could give her an answer as to why there is this no camera policy now.

After 20 minutes she gave up trying to find the answer internally and asked for the location of one of the stores where I’d seen the stickers.  I gave her the location, and she tried to contact the owner.  With no luck she called the store only to be told no manager was in.  She even said “Mam, I think that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.  I’m going to file a complaint about this because this is a franchise store, and we need to know if it makes a policy change”.  I was told franchise stores can make their own policies, but they have to notify corporate when they do so.

I explained to her this wasn’t the only store I’ve “heard” of this happening at.  I’ve seen numerous photos on flickr from other patrons along with stories of them being hassled for taking photos.  I explained that I am a blogger writing a story on this, and I asked if it was possible to email my findings, and it was.  I sent in a list of all the links I’ve found with stories from other people regarding the no camera stickers and their experiences.  She added that to the complaint, tried contacting the owner of our local BK one more time, then took down my information.  She promised to have someone call me back within 2 business days, and I got her information as well including her extension so if my call isn’t returned I can call back to her directly.

Fast forward to today.  I found Hubby rummaging through the kitchen without any luck, so I asked if he wanted to ride to town to grab a bite to eat.  I so wasn’t in the mood to cook, plus I wanted to ride by Burger King to snap a photo of the stickers on the door to add to my previous post.

We hit up the Burger King drive through again, and pulled up to the window.  I immediately noticed the sticker was gone.  It had been located in the lower right hand corner of the drive through window, and all that was left was the sticky goo where it had been removed, but the window hadn’t been cleaned.  The manager just happened to be running the window, so I asked him about it.  I made mention that I’d seen the sign a few days ago, and he said “yeah, we took it down because we’re having too many complaints.  We had 2 birthday parties canceled because the parent’s couldn’t take photos of the party.”

I told him I thought the policy was absurd to begin with, and I myself had called corporate to ask why no cameras were allowed without ever getting a straight answer.  He said he didn’t know why the stickers were put up in the first place, but it was a request straight from Burger King, not the franchise owner.  All he knew was they put the stickers up last weekend and were asked to remove them this weekend.

Sounds to me like they’ve got an awful lot of complaints about a policy they couldn’t justify.
