I’ve got to do some research today. My Grandma called me last week wanting to know if I’ve heard of Georgia Life. I had no clue what she was talking about. She said she received a phone call last week soliciting life insurance quotes, and she just happened to remember that years ago she had taken out life insurance policies on her 3 girls through Georgia Life.
She had paid the policies in full, so she hasn’t received any paperwork from them in years. She doesn’t even know if the policies or still live or if she can cash them in. She promised she has all the original paperwork in her filing cabinet, so I told her to get all the paperwork to me, and I’d see what I could find out.
What I did find out is that she took the policies out on my mom and my aunts when they were really young. My mom was about 10, and my aunts were 5 and 1. The home address listed on the policy is the rural route address that was associated with the house I now live in, but that address changed over 30 years ago.
I promised to gather as much information as I can today, but I don’t know what I’ll be able to find. I’m not good at finding stuff like this, and I don’t have any clue about insurance type stuff. I have a hard enough time just trying to decide what company to request my own free quote from.
From what I have determined, the Georgia Life company was bought out by ING a few years ago, but that’s all I’ve been able to find out. I gave my Grandma a number to call to speak to someone with the company, but she gets confused on the phone. Like a lot of older folks she doesn’t know how to ask the right questions, she gets frustrated, and she just can’t deal with them.
I told her I’ll keep doing as much research as I can on this end, but she’s going to have to at least call to talk to someone. I’m going over there in a couple hours, and I’m going to see if she can call and give them permission to speak to me. I’m sure I can find out a lot more for her over the phone.
